Weird day today...

I went into work today as I have done every Monday for almost 12 years. I saw my buddy Aaron in the parking lot and said hello. I was off last week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so I was just catching up. I guess on Friday 03/06/09 twenty three people got laid off at work. Holy Shit! I had no idea. This is the third lay off I have been through since working there. Very unnerving!
The weird thing is that I was listening to a Howard Zinn cd earlier in the day. He was talking about the history of labor since about 1900. All the strikes etc, that you don't learn about in normal text books. The cd is brilliant and Howard Zinn is my hero. The president and vice president called a meeting at 4:00pm to assure us that things were going to be ok. Except that there are no guarantees about anything. So I have made it through three so far and I'm still kicking. So far they have cut our hours to 37.5 a week. They no longer match our 401(k) and there is no profit sharing anymore. Harsh and Ugly!
The health insurance is shit! It's an unpleasant reminder that no job is secure anymore in this country. I've been thinking about the state of affairs lately. My take on the whole thing is that America has burned itself out. Greed, politics, religion, nationalism,war, cronyism and so on have reached the apex. Nowhere to go but down! We are now in a mess because the people who are in the $50,000 to $150,000 range are losing their jobs. Before when the rest of us were suffering it was "oh well, THEY'LL get over it." Now white collar people are getting it up the ass. And guess what? It hurts! The rest of the world must be thinking,"how can the richest country on earth screw things up so bad?" By reading what my dad calls "lefty revisionist history" it doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Just remember who you voted for in 2000 and 2004 and you may get the idea. This country was built on the Class Struggle and it's crumbling on the Class Struggle. Just an observation......
